SOME UNUSUAL STRIDES IN REPRESENTING THE RICH AND DEFENDING THE POOR
In several years of our existence, it will be very difficult to catalogue for you the number or variety of cases we have handled. Nor can we chronicle the details of our clients’ cases or the battles fought for obvious professional reasons. But in our representation of certain governments or municipalities, the very rich and powerful, or the poor and the damned, some cases stand out. Here is short, brief information on a few of those cases.
Many years ago, an elderly woman was referred to our office by a satisfied client. Prior to coming to us, she had consulted with many law firms, all of which declined to represent her. Precisely, she had served as a maid to a multi-millionaire who provided her room and board and paid her little or nothing for 15 years. The multi-millionaire died bequeathing $50,000 to her, which for unexplained reasons, was later reduced to $25,000. The client wanted her $50,000. But in reviewing her case and circumstances, we determined she deserved more. Suit was filed resulting in a six-figure recovery.
Then came a Holocaust survivor who contracted a powerful New York law firm to represent her in her breast implant claim. She claimed her case was improperly handled. Afraid of confronting a powerful law firm, who secured a $1.2 billion settlement, on advice of a friend, she flew to Maryland after many New York lawyers refused her case. After retaining us, we obtained incredible monetary damages for her without even filing suit.
Many years ago, an overweight Georgian (weight close to 300 pounds) was dining in a restaurant when the chair she was sitting on collapsed resulting in serious fall. She hired two Law Firms that filed suit claiming $25,000 in damages. When the last lawyer advised her to drop the case for contributing to the fall due to her overweight, she consulted with the Baltimore County Bar, who referred her to our Firm. For a case that other lawyers asked for $25,000, we obtained a six-figure recovery. Sounds incredible, but believe it.
Finally, a business client was looking for lawyers to assist him with certain mergers and acquisitions to achieve a certain growth level. After interviewing many Law Firms, he finally retained us. We assisted the Firm from a $3 million company to an asset base close to $200 million. There are many more success stories.
